AI Testing Tools: Six Options and What Each One Does

Posted on October 26, 2026October 21, 2026 by Chloe Sterling

The AI testing tools worth a look fall into two camps, and picking from the wrong camp is the most common way to waste a trial. One camp uses AI to help write, run and repair tests. The other checks products that contain AI, such as chat assistants and retrieval systems. This list covers six tools from both camps, each described from its own documentation or website.

How to choose AI testing tools

Start from what you need to test. Agents and auto-healing suit teams with a large automated suite that keeps breaking. Evaluation libraries suit teams shipping assistants or retrieval systems. QAlified’s LLM testing guide draws the same line, naming prompt libraries, evaluation functions and automated feedback loops as the building blocks for testing language model applications.

Reading up on artificial intelligence and QA before you shortlist helps you judge vendor claims. Then ask each vendor three things:

  • Does it run inside your CI pipeline?
  • Who reviews what the AI generates?
  • What happens to your tests if you leave?

Six AI testing tools and what they do

1. Playwright Test Agents

Playwright includes a planner, a generator and a healer. They produce a Markdown test plan, turn it into test files and repair failing tests, and the output lives in your repository as readable specs and tests. The agents run through your AI tool of choice, and the documentation lists VS Code, Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode. When the healer decides the functionality itself is broken, it skips the test instead of forcing it to pass.

2. mabl

mabl positions itself as an agentic testing harness. Its agents create, run, analyze and maintain tests across web, mobile and APIs, and the platform lists AI auto-healing and low-code testing. Its pitch is verification at every stage, from building coverage to the release call, with agents that investigate what changed after a failure. Customer numbers on its site are vendor testimonials, so run your own pilot before trusting them.

3. Applitools Eyes

Eyes uses visual AI to compare rendered screens, with Dynamic, Strict, Layout and Exact match levels. It also checks contrast and font sizes against WCAG standards and works inside Playwright, Cypress, Selenium and other frameworks. A click on any visual difference opens the exact CSS rule or DOM element behind it, which shortens triage, and baselines can be updated in one click. Applitools also says it captures a page state once and renders it across more than 100 browser, viewport and device combinations in its cloud grid.

4. ArtificialQA

QAlified built ArtificialQA for the automated validation of non-deterministic systems, especially those with generative AI. It scores responses on criteria such as accuracy, clarity, correctness, formality, empathy, fluency and bias, which suits cases where no single answer is correct. The stated benefit is scaling tests without adding manual effort, and QAlified’s metrics guide calls it a hybrid scorer that blends traditional evaluation signals with AI-driven judgment.

5. DeepEval

DeepEval is an LLM evaluation framework that plugs into Pytest, so deepeval test run collects and runs eval files the way Pytest runs ordinary tests. It installs with pip and its documentation includes a section on unit testing in CI/CD, and its quickstart walks through creating a test case, choosing a metric and running it, then evaluating an agent’s full trajectory with tracing.

6. Ragas

Ragas is a library for moving from informal “vibe checks” to systematic evaluation loops for language model applications. Its metrics include faithfulness and context precision for retrieval systems. It takes an experiments-first approach: change something, run the evaluation, observe the results and iterate. It also manages datasets and integrates with frameworks such as LangChain and LlamaIndex.

What to check before you commit

QAlified’s adoption guidance for codeless tools recommends a small pilot on a single module, plus a review of vendor lock-in risks and licensing terms before any rollout. The same advice fits AI tools. Pick one flow that breaks often and is easy to measure, run the tool on it for a few sprints and compare maintenance effort with your current setup.

If you also need to watch an AI product in production, Langfuse is an open-source AI engineering platform that traces LLM and non-LLM calls and offers prompt management and evaluation. It is built on OpenTelemetry, which it says reduces vendor lock-in.

For tools that test AI products, add a second check: whether the metrics match your risks. QAlified’s metrics guide names correctness, answer relevancy, task completion, hallucination rate, contextual relevance for retrieval systems, and bias and toxicity as core measures, and it warns that BLEU and ROUGE do not capture semantic accuracy or user intent.

A tool that looks impressive in a demo but cannot show you why it made a decision will cost you more in review time than it saves in writing time.
